Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet on Wednesday in Thailand on the sidelines of an ASEAN meeting, a ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

"Yes, I can confirm that their meeting is scheduled for July 22. This will be the first contact between the heads of the foreign policy agencies since the Moscow summit on July 6-8," Andrei Nesterenko said.

He said the meeting would focus on specific issues in bilateral ties, "covering the entire agenda of Russian-U.S. relations, aiming to elevate them to new levels" and along a path of "stable, long-term development."

He added that the sides would also address Asia-Pacific and international issues.

Clinton and Lavrov last met on May 7 in Washington.

Nesterenko also said Russia and the U.S. could hold another round of talks on arms cuts in Geneva in late August or early September.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and U.S. President Barack Obama signed an agreement on July 6 outlining basic provisions for a final treaty, including cuts in their countries' nuclear stockpiles to 1,500-1,675 warheads and delivery vehicles to 500-1,000.

Moscow has linked progress in the talks to Washington's concessions on its plans to deploy new missile defense bases in Europe.
